Welcome to Outside the Box Consulting

At Outside the Box we have a proven track record of thinking very differently to working with young people and children. We recognize that old methods do not work for many of our children, and that many aspects of our education system are failing young people. With a wide network of amazing people and a huge wealth of experience in psychology, educational leadership, advisory services, training and student support, our core team can support your setting, organisation or family to consider alternative approach and adjustments that can lead to more positive outcomes...

Join us 'Outside the Box', where we celebrate differences and create pathways to success that go beyond conventional education. Let's embark on this journey together, turning challenges into opportunities and ensuring that every child can shine in their own unique way.

Services

We understand that no two children are the same, and everyone has different needs, both educationally and socially. We therefore offer a range of bespoke packages and activities to meet these. We can offer longer or short term packages to:

  • develop physical health or social and emotional wellbeing as part of an alternative education offer
  • focus on EHCP outcomes or targeted academic support
  • transition between educational settings after a placement breakdown

We are confident we can help secure the best outcomes for every young person we work with.

Our experienced team have a can do approach to any child and situation and we can work in a child centred way to ensure they get the best education possible. We use qualified DBS checked teachers and tutors who can deliver a wide range of bespoke and modified curriculum, or work towards specific EHCP outcomes, or other focuses like functional skills, GCSE or more vocational and specific training like outdoor qualifications or personal training.

We don't believe the key to change is writing long winded reports, however we know that sometimes a fresh set of experienced eyes can make all the difference to what feels like a 'stuck' situation. This could be from one of our experienced SEMH/SEN leaders or a specific clinical professional.

We are also well versed in SEN and Special educational advice, with a proven record in the local authority advisory services as well as independent educational settings and can offer an enhanced level of support for schools and parents looking to better meet the needs of a child or young person.

We can support your organisation with a graded response, based on initial consultation and observation. This could be a series of visits with a report from on of our experienced SEN leaders, to a referral to our SALT or OT partners for bespoke intervention or training.

As part of an introductory offer for our service, we would like to offer any Multi-Academy trust or cluster of schools within Cornwall a free half day of advice and support from a qualified SENDCO, autism advisor and experienced SEN leader. Please contact us through the website to arrange this.

Everyone working with children and young people  wants to do their best. Sometimes just having the right knowledge and approach goes a long way in embedding good practice in your setting or organisation. We can personalize training to focus on specific issues; creating positive environments, supporting ASC, de-escalation, PDA, trauma informed approaches or emotion coaching.

We can tap into existing good practice in other settings to coach and support your team, developing their ability to work with challenging young people in a positive and trauma informed way. This could be for a small group or perhaps an individual support worker.

One of the most effective way to drive change in specific staff can be through on the job coaching. We can deploy an experienced SEMH staff member alongside your team to model positive approaches.

How do we go about referring to your service?

A simple contact form initially to outline your needs, we will then send back a very simple referral form to gain some of the basic knowledge. If you're ready to refer, please download a form from the referral page.

Do you offer ongoing support after the initial involvement?

Our level of support completely varies and depends on your goals as the commissioning organisation. We could simply visit, observe and advise, or can remain in the background and support with ongoing staff training and development. We have a 'graded' approach and can adapt as need demands.
